24v panels to charge 12v batteries in RV? Most of the solar setups I see for RVs use 12v panels; I never see 24v panels. I plan to use a Victron MPPT 100/30 charge controller and would like to connect a single 300w panel. Assuming i have the space for it on the RV roof, is there any con to this as opposed to using a pair of 12v panels to achieve the same wattage? East/West orientation when no net metering is available? Hey everyone. Im putting together a ground mounted 10kw grid tie with backup system. Even with a true south orientation 10kw is only estimated to offset about 20% of the sites electric usage. The local utility doesnt allow for any sort of net metering or billing so any excess production the batteries cant store wont be worth anything. The sites time of use is rather random and isnt expected to peak at any given time or follow any sort of pattern. Solar PPA question I hope this is the right sub for this question. I was looking around at the others and they are either deserted or for DIYers. I'm thinking of going Solar and was approached by a Vivint sales guy. This is the system he's attempting to "sell" me. Doing some research I find that Vivint has a reputation of kind of leaving people in the lurch once they get them to sign. So I'm already wary of that. General questions for Solar in Phoenix area home I’m looking into getting Solar for my home. I live in a Phoenix AZ suburb and I don’t plan to moving. I have received a few quotes for 27 panels of 325 Hanhwa Qcells (8.78kw) or 330 Panasonic panels (8.91kw) with a solar edge inverter. The price difference is about $4k between them. My concern is that different companies provided different annual production. Some estimated as high as 16,500 kWh and some were about 15,500 kWh for the same system ( Panasonic). 1) how do I determine what I’ll really see in terms of annual production? And realistic degradation rates. 2) is it worth getting the Panasonic panels over the Qcells or will the difference be marginal? What is potential of reflected/concentrated light-solar energy? Imagine a bunch of mirrors in the sky (maintaining their position from some helium and/or their own solar panels). Wouldn't this make solar more viable than alternative sources of energy in areas that are commonly regarded as areas where solar isn't a good option - specifically, where there is pretty consistent but not so intense sunlight? Or would the extra work needed of getting the mirrors up there and stay there not be worth the extra energy/resources required? Due to fire code we've been given a range of 14 to 20 panels on our best roof, 5 on our second best, and we have room for another 18 or so panels on not so great roofs. Difference between Panasonic panels Our original solar quote was for Panasonic 330SA17 panels. The installer is offering N325K all black panels for the same price. Originally they said the N325ks would be an upcharge. Is net metering fair when you don’t pay transmission costs for the power you push to the grid? So I have a PV system and love it. I also love that in NJ I get a 1:1 credit for every kWh I produce so that I can use it anytime during the 12 month period. No TOU rates. My question is about the fairness of it... Last year, I produced more than what I used. My overproduction netted me a $80 credit from the electric company (my excess kWh at $0.04 which is the wholesale price). My fixed monthly customer charge is $3. So last year I took advantage of the grid, line workers, line maintenance, transformers, etc and actually made money from the electric company. In NJ there is a transmission cost and a generation cost. They only charge me those when I pull electricity from the grid. I feel that I should also pay transmission costs for the power I push to the grid because I’m using the grid infrastructure. Home solar system I’m not sure if this is the correct place to post this question but here goes. I am in SoCal and my electric bill per month over the last 2 years is 120-360. Prob avg 160 per month electric only. We recently installed a hot tub and now my electric only is 370 per month. kWh avg around 500 month with spikes to 700’s 3 month a year in summer. Buying a home with active Tesla PPA My wife and I are in the process of buying a house that has panels installed. I've recently learned the panels are actually in the form of a PPA. Of course they're trying to transfer the agreement over to us (another 18 years give or take). New solar installation from SunRun - our electric bill hasn’t changed. I’m hoping to get some insight from actual users first before I call out to the company. We signed up for solar panels through SunRun back in July. Everything was finally set up in October, and we went solar. Our new ConEd bill came in, and it was still around $95. Which was about average, maybe slightly less than normal. Says we used about 380 kWh. SunRun shows that we produced 213 kWh of energy. From what I understand, that means we used a total of 593 kWh in November. Our previous November has never been that high, and our highest usage over the year was July, when we had AC running constantly, and we used 640 kWh. It doesn’t add up that we almost used the same amount of power in November, when it was averaging 45-55 degrees. Can I get some help with my system? Northern California 2000 Sq ft house. South facing roof. Everything is electric (heater, pool, water, appliances), so we use a lot of energy. Suffice to say I am an excellent candidate for solar. Our bill is usually around $350 a month from PG&E. Doing some energy upgrades but probably going to add a few things anyway.
