Trying to find a way for temporary mounts on a roof

Trying to find a way for temporary mounts on a roof Hello all, I recently bough a small 50W solar panel and am looking for a way to mount it to my roof. I'm currently renting so I want to avoid drilling holes in the shingles in the roof. The type of roof have access to is like the image below. It gets great sunlight all day and would love to mount it there. It will only be in place for about 8 months until I move out and I'll be taking it with me. I also have easy access to the roof so if any storms/high winds are coming through I can take it down easily. Cabling/battery location is not an issue as there is a window nearby I can snake the wires through. Any tips or ideas are greatly appreciated! Thanks https://i.redd.it/7a6woeh51e121.jpg submitted by /u/Low_Bridge [visit reddit] [comments] https://ift.tt/2SlxDvU

Solar Newbie questions about Legion Solar "no permission energy"

Solar Newbie questions about Legion Solar "no permission energy" Solar is something that I would like to add to my house to reduce my grid energy consumption, but not really something I know much about. I came across this Kickstarter for Legion Solar which looks both simple and relatively inexpensive, but I don't know enough to evaluate the system and if it's a good deal. I'd really love to get the opinions of people who know what they are talking about. I have questions: Are the panels sold with the Legion Solar kits cost effective or are there better options? I like that the kit starts small and can be expanded over time. I understand that the starter kit and one panel merely reduces grid consumption and is not stored energy. I assume adding more panels will equal more savings and I probably won't see a huge impact from one panel. How would I go about calculating what savings over time I can expect per panel? Since this system is not tied to the

Wanting to add 3 panels, electrical question.

Wanting to add 3 panels, electrical question. I'm wanting to add 3 Solarworld 300W panels to my existing rig, a pdf of it is here: https://my.pcloud.com/publink/show?code=XZ4Qsg7ZrC6RCuWamU5g49f6tdgBFQznidSk . Currently, the wires on my existing 2 banks of 6 renogy series wired 20v panels are simply crimped together into the wires going to the charge controller. The Solarworld panels are 40v panels, so, in my mind, it would be okay to series these 3 together and just crimp them in. My panel dealer suggested a combiner box, which I think is a great idea, but my question is more electrical then whether my setup could use the Box. submitted by /u/solarsense [visit reddit] [comments] https://ift.tt/2Q18gTt

Excluding Solar PV From Czech Renewables Auctions an Expensive Mistake, Warns Solar Association

Excluding Solar PV From Czech Renewables Auctions an Expensive Mistake, Warns Solar Association The Czech Solar Association is sounding the alarm about planned legislation that would exclude solar PV projects being entered into future Renewable Energy Auctions. The Czech Ministry for Industry and Trade has recently submitted an amendment proposal to the law which explicitly bars solar energy from future auctions. If passed in its current version (Act. No. 165/2012 Coll., on promoted energy sources) the law would lead the Czech Republic down a needlessly expensive path, warns the Solar Association. Solar energy has proven the cheapest renewable form of energy in countless solar auctions in surrounding countries. https://ift.tt/2Pbu7SC

Clarification on grid- tie inverter stacking

Clarification on grid- tie inverter stacking So I have been looking around at different solar projects and I noticed something; most articles and information on stacking, specifically, grid-tie inverter stacking concerns mostly micro-inverters, and not larger inverters like say a 40kW grid-tie solar inverter stacked with another. I tried to do my own research, but it seems I keep running into conflicting or incomplete information. So I'm really just wondering, are there any limits to stacking grid-tie inverters specifically? Can stacking large grid tie inverters (e.g. 40kW) even be done? Is it better to just buy a single, large inverter than go through the trouble of stacking? submitted by /u/answers_to_kv [visit reddit] [comments] https://ift.tt/2ApDGrG

What are some ways I can make myself attractive as a candidate without explicitly related experience. I am currently in the early stages of studying for the FE exam though I’m not planning to test a few month. Interested in Career in Solar (Technician)

Interested in Career in Solar (Technician) Hello all, Recently I have realized how powerful solar can be for our global economy. I am interested in learning more about it, making a difference, and working outside. I believe as we move forward solar has the potential to open up a big market for itself. With that being said, I am aware in order to become a solar technician, it helps to have passed the NABCEP exam. I am also aware that thousands of places hold classes to train to pass the exam and more. I have been looking into a list of specific departments/community colleges that offer specific courses. http://www.nabcep.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/08.25.17-Registered-Assoc-Providers.pdf When looking to be hired by an solar company/business, are there specific community colleges/departments (in the U.S.) that are known better than others? (I am interested in residential home installation) If so, are there specific hands on courses other than the NABCEP that would be b

How to switch a solar water heater on?

How to switch a solar water heater on? Hi guys, dumbest post on Reddit award incoming.... I just moved into an apartment that has a water heater on the terrace. In our flat we also have a small boiler. Nothing looks in bad shape, everything is pretty modern, but since I moved in the water temperature has been mildly hot at best. I just found our fuse box and noticed that our switch labeled 'solar panel' was deactivated. I just flicked it on. Are traditional boiler/solar panel combinations pretty common? Will flicking the fuse on resolve all the problems? I flicked it on at the end of the day, has the solar panel been collecting energy all day, even if the fuse was off? If everything is alright, how long before I should start to notice the solar panel kicking into effect? Thanks so much submitted by /u/Im_Justin_Cider [visit reddit] [comments] https://ift.tt/2zrQsq0

DC v AC $ per Watt

DC v AC $ per Watt I have two quotes: one with Enphase, one with SolarEdge. The former is a lower price per watt DC, the latter is a lower price per watt AC. Solar tester?

Solar tester? Is there a device that can measure the amount of solar energy potential in a certain area at a certain angle? Like a small solar panel that I can face towards the sky at different angles to figure out which direction and angle would be the best to place solar panels? The reason I’m wondering is because my roof faces west. I understand South is the most efficient, but I’m trying to figure out HOW MUCH more efficient. And if it would be worth it to tilt the panels South in a low pitch roof, or just add another panel or 2. submitted by /u/TrouserSnake88 [visit reddit] [comments] https://ift.tt/2TCgGP8

How to grid tie in San Diego?

How to grid tie in San Diego? Thinking of putting up a simple solar rack to hold 30 x 170w panels. I'm getting old panels sold used. So I'm wondering, if I use new enphase inverters, how do I engage with SDGE to figure out what they need for net metering? Will they inspect my panels and go " these are not allowed " which is totally unreasonable. Or will they be looking only at the grid to inverter connection? submitted by /u/Werefreeatlast [visit reddit] [comments] https://ift.tt/2Aiowo9

Outback Radian/FlexMax/FlexNet: Limiting battery charge current while still maximizing grid sell?

Outback Radian/FlexMax/FlexNet: Limiting battery charge current while still maximizing grid sell? I'm working on designing my install for next year, and one thing I've found that I think works, but I wanted to verify: If I have an Outback setup (Radian inverters, FlexMax chargers, FlexNet DC for monitoring, etc), can I do the following? Have a large array (call it 12-14kW effective output) that, operating at max output, can produce 250+ ADC into the battery bank. Use the Mate3 to program the system such that the maximum battery charge current is restricted to a lower value (100A). Have the system still producing the rated power, while selling the excess into the grid/house system (so putting 150ADC into the inverters). Per my reading of the documentation, this should be doable with GT Mode and the various communication between systems. I just wanted to verify that this sounds reasonable to people more familiar with the system than I. Also, is it possible to install a R
