Calculating ev charge rate to only use solar resources

Calculating ev charge rate to only use solar resources If I have a solar system currently producing 1000 wh, how can I determine the optimal amps to set for ev charging? I'd like to avoid pulling from the grid, but I don't really know a formula to calculate energy to current. If there's a formula that's what I'm looking for since sometimes it produces 500 wh and other times 3300. submitted by /u/PontiacCollector [visit reddit] [comments] https://ift.tt/2uIU1Zh

Current Solar Proposal- How did I do, plus questions :)

Current Solar Proposal- How did I do, plus questions :) All. I am about to sign a contract with this vendor and I wanted you all to overlook it and tell how I did. https://imgur.com/a/kkgYU They plan on using Jinko panels and either an SMA or Fronius inverter. When I asked them to use a solaredge, they started telling me about "all the problem's they had" They still would be willing to provide a solaredge over the Fronius/SMA. My reasoning is that based on comments from this subreddit here, the Solaredge is more efficient, has less warranty issues. These are the selling points they offered "I think the one that you were wanting was SMA. SMA because with it we can have a 2,000 watt outlet in the event of a power outrage you could plug in a few lights and run some stuff like a refrigerator if needed. We've had experience with SolarEdge inverters and have found them to not be very good. Fronius or SMA would be the way to go" submitted by /u/steakncheese1

What would happen if an abutter built a commercial building that shaded your solar array

What would happen if an abutter built a commercial building that shaded your solar array If someone is zoned residential and they put an array up and then years down the road a lot next door may get bought and then the developer throws up a 10 story apartment complex that significantly changes the shade profile of your roof. A customer asked this of me and I do not have an answer. I imagine each state is different but is there an answer better than fight the developer at a town hall meeting and then sue him if he builds it. On the other end of the spectrum, if there was some sort of zoning issue that you can't build a highrise next to an existing system, that yields an incredible amount of power to the homeowner and destroys the neighboring land value because a developer may not purchase it now if there is a caveat of nothing over 2 stories can be built. Surely this must have occurred at least once by now in the US and precedent has been set. submitted by /u/SmartestMonkeyAlive

Europe’s New Renewable Energy Directive

Europe’s New Renewable Energy Directive by Helena Tavares Kennedy You may have heard that the  European Parliament voted in favor of the RED II  (Renewable Energy Directive) proposal in January. Probably the most notable (or at least covered in the news the most) was their decision to remove biodiesel made from palm oil from its list of biofuels that can count towards the EU’s renewables target from 2021. It also voted that “ biomass fuels consumed in transport , if produced from food or feed crops, shall be no more than the contribution from those to the gross final consumption of energy from renewable energy sources in 2017 in that Member State, with a maximum of 7% of gross final consumption in road and rail transport.” The European Parliament also voted to include an  overall transport target of 12% , containing a 10% blending mandate for advanced fuels, including electricity, waste-based biofuels and recycled carbon fuels. What is a good meter/data logger that would allow me to consume it's data through an API?

What is a good meter/data logger that would allow me to consume it's data through an API? Hello, I'm a software engineer recently working in a solar firm and we're building a web application to manage all of our project's consumption/injection and performance data. Everything works just fine with ABB and SMA inverters, they provide an API and we're consuming their data with 0 issues, but for all other brands, we're kind of in the dark. Both Fronius and GoodWe say explicitly that they have an API, but when checked it was not really what they said it was, Fronius calls it's Solar Web an API and GoodWe are bad at replying emails and providing useful info (in fact we may not work with those products anymore because it's such a hard work to contact someone that would answer). Ingeteam and Huawei are yet to reply to us. So I started looking into meters or data loggers that'd do the job we need. But most sales representatives in my (3rd world) country

Note: this is for the Oncor service area It looks like TXU and Reliant are the other companies that offer buy-back/'net-metering' programs from what I've found so far, they're both showing higher per kwh costs, but it's a buy-back program so do I really care? Who has the best-reasoned estimates of time periods for energy returned on energy invested for solar?

Who has the best-reasoned estimates of time periods for energy returned on energy invested for solar? I have been looking at the scientific literature on solar- how much energy does it take to make and install a panel, how much energy does the panel return over its lifetime, what is the energy payback period. (Along the way I got sidetracked into the time factor - how often does the energy get paid back.) My initial thoughts were very optimistic. I got excited by an article at: https://cleantechnica.com/2018/02/03/solar-power-can-pay-easily/ That first link makes a very big claim - namely that solar pays back power with a very good "energy payback period." Edit: a condensed version of the same optimistic story is at: https://cleantechnica.com/2018/03/25/solar-power-energy-payback-time-now-super-short/ I looked at claims from NREL such as: https://www.nrel.gov/docs/fy04osti/35489.pdf and (because a lot of science papers cited this as a source) I looked at claims from

Looks like I have the Zigsbee (i think that’s what it is) hooked up to it. The extender is showing full bars, SOK is on, and even the link is blinking ever so slowly. I have restarted my router and the Zigsbee thing multiple times. I went into the inverter menu and I don’t have WiFi, wish I did. Perovskite Research Promises More Solar Power for Your Money

Perovskite Research Promises More Solar Power for Your Money A simple potassium solution could boost the efficiency of next-generation solar cells, by enabling them to convert more sunlight into electricity. An international team of researchers led by the University of Cambridge found that the addition of potassium iodide 'healed' the defects and immobilised ion movement, which to date have limited the efficiency of cheap perovskite solar cells. http://ift.tt/2ufGhVg

Question about solar tax credits for low income households that don't pay taxes

Question about solar tax credits for low income households that don't pay taxes Hello, we're interested in purchasing some solar panels this year and have gone through the estimate process with a local contracter. We live in upstate NY and qualify for the Affordable Incentive with our income. However, our income is low enough that with our two children we do not pay any taxes. As I understand, this means we can't take advantage of any credits above the Affordable Incentive. I have a friend who went through SolarCity on a lease, and he said the credit is good for 5 years. Once my wife goes back to work our income will be high enough that we start paying taxes again. Is the 5 year window true? And if so, is it also true for people purchasing panels, not just leasing them? We're still likely to go through with the panels because we'll be in this home for the duration and I believe electricity rates will only rise going forward, but any ability to take advantage of inc

Thinking of going solar in NJ. Looking for feedback on the quote I got and if it's still worth it in NJ or not with the future of srecs now uncertain. Through tesla/solar city The system: I believe it's 27 325kw panels. 8.775kw system that's supposed to produce 11,600mw. Price: 35k before the federal 30% tax credit. The concerns: Financing this system over 20 years will end up costing me 57k. Srecs might be coming to an end as new jersey is already about to hit its caps for them this year. New legislation is being worked on but the future of these credits is in the air. Without them, I don't see how solar is worth it at all. My estimated monthly current electric bill is ~$150. My loan payments would be $170 plus 18 for the remaining electricity. Right now srecs (11) of them would cover me but not if they disappear or drop significantly. With a total 20 year cost of 57k, it looks like solar wouldn't finally pay for itself to almost 30 years down the r

Can someone help me understand the seemingly absurd standards of energy measurement for storage and usage?

Can someone help me understand the seemingly absurd standards of energy measurement for storage and usage? I see products marked as using 1186 W with DC Power @12V. I can't help but think energy usage should be measured over time. Does 1186W mean 1186W per hour? Same question applied to solar panels. A 3'x5' panel is advertised at providing 265 watts. Does this mean watts per hour? With ideal conditions, would I need ~5 of these panels to power my 1186 W device for one hour? I see that the amount of energy I use on a monthly basis is measured in kwh, which again seems completely absurd because if anything, this should just be measured in watts. If I am using 656kwh / month, would I need 2,562 hours total of active 256W panels to cover my electricity usage? Thanks so much in advance. It's super interesting to me that the units of measure of electrical power are inverted of what one might intuit. Rates are measured in fixed values (W), and fixed values are mea
