Standing Seam Metal Roof is the best match for Roof mounted Solar Panels?

Standing Seam Metal Roof is the best match for Roof mounted Solar Panels?

Greetings All,

In approx 3-7 years it'll be time to redo my asphalt roof, so I've got some time to figure what I would really want to replace it with.

I am located in South Florida with fairly low pitched roofs - so really hot & humid half the year, with the occasional Cat 5 (150mph+) winds blowing through...asphalt roofs generally don't last as long down here as compared to more northern climates...

With Solar Panels having 25-30 year warranties, it makes sense to have a roof that will last as long or longer - I wouldn't (or the next owner) want to have to go through the hassle to remove the panels just to redo the roof again in 13-17 years with asphalt shingles and then install the panels back on. So it seems metal is the way to go? Tile & Slate have long life spans as well, but I am concerned about them getting damaged during high winds or if a heavy tree branch hits them?

As far as metal roofs go, it seems standing seam lends itself best to Solar Panel installation? Instead of drilling holes through the roof for mounting the panels, there appears to be a solutions where there are mounts that securely fasten to the standing seams of this style of roof.

Besides the cost (Metal roofs are expensive - though no where near as expensive as a Tesla roof), any cons to this plan?

Besides the really cool (and expensive) Tesla Solar Roof, are there any other roofing technologies coming down the line that would make the metal roof with solar panels obsolete?

Thanks in Advance!
