Question about solar lighting

Question about solar lighting

Not sure where else i have to go to ask this question, but does solar lighting such as in gardens make use of both diffuse AND indiffuse sunlight? Do they also charge with sunlight that comes from other things besides diffuse sunlight, such as surface reflection etc?
