Inverter placement question

Inverter placement question

I had a reputable company in MA come out and give me a proposal for a 7kw system. The installation would come with a SolarEdge inverter. The only thing odd is they mentioned that as part of the NEC 2017 electrical code changes, the inverter must be placed outside. My neighbor just got his installation done with another reputable company, and their company put it inside. Cursory Googling of NEC 2017 and solar doesn't mention anything about this. Any idea what the real story is with inverter location?
